The Phoenix is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization which offers a free sober active community to individuals who have suffered from a substance use disorder and to those who choose a sober life. Using a peer support model, we help members heal and rebuild their lives while also striving to eliminate stigma around recovery. Activities offered include CrossFit, climbing, hiking, boxing, running, yoga, road & mountain biking, and strength training. Through traditional fundraising strategies and revenue ventures, Phoenix is able to provide free programs for anyone with 48 hours of sobriety. The Phoenix currently operates in California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, and Massachusetts.

Per Ignem CrossFit it is a public CrossFit affiliate operated through The Phoenix. All membership dues from Per Ignem directly support The Phoenix in its ability to provide free recovery support services throughout the community. Additionally, Per Ignem CrossFit offers a specialized Workforce Development program which provides team members the opportunity to pursue careers in Health and Wellness. Through educational training, mentorship and support, and Hands-On experiential learning, each participant will be provided with the skills necessary to build a successful Fitness career.

The Phoenix is seeking an experienced and motivated individual who will work closely with the Boston director of programs in order to manage all Per Ignem CrossFit and Workforce Development operations. He or she will be responsible for instructing all levels of group fitness classes within the Boston, MA Chapter. The Gym and Workforce Development Manager will be responsible for overseeing successful operations of the CrossFit affiliate as well as managing an integrated Workforce Development program. Day-to-day tasks will include coaching multiple group classes, coordinating trainer and coach schedules, implementing member acquisition and retention strategies, establishing financial goals and pricing for both Per Ignem and Workforce Development, and executing any other tasks necessary to support growth and success within the organization. A strong connection to The Phoenix Mission and commitment to leading by example are critical to this position; preference will be given to those with personal experience in recovery from alcohol or a substance use disorder.

Per Ignem CrossFit is a dynamic, creative and fast-paced environment requiring employees to be flexible and able to adapt to an ever-changing environment. The ideal candidate will be a certified and experienced CrossFit instructor or Personal Trainer with program management experience. This may include leading private or semi-private personal training, designing a program calendar, managing gym facilities and training new coaches. Duties and responsibilities may grow and evolve as the business needs do.

-Oversee/manage general daily administrative needs and tasks of the CrossFit program, including scheduling programs, events, marketing and outreach activities, and ensuring that facilities and equipment are in functioning order
-Coach Multiple classes each week including CrossFit, Fundamentals Courses, Olympic Lifting and offer personal training sessions as needed

-Design and implement a structured educational program based on an NASM personal training curriculum

-Work closely with the Director of Programs and Partnerships to ensure that expectations of the Workforce Development Program are met
-Analyze effectiveness of Workforce Development Program, take suggestions from Team Members and trainees, and coordinate with other managers and staff to make improvements to the program
-Participate in the upkeep of a clean, friendly, and well-maintained gym
-Support the achievement of quarterly and annual community programming and partnership goals
-Review and respond promptly, accurately and cordially to inquiries made through email
-Contribute to social media through Facebook, twitter and Instagram
-Participate in outreach events to target high-risk populations and engage new members in Phoenix events
-Carry out administrative functions , including updating program schedule on our website, conducting outreach events and data entry
-Attend and participate in local and national staff meetings, and programming and partnership team meetings
-Manage retail and merchandise inventory, restocking, and reordering
-Substitute for other instructors and lead classes as needed
-Be an ambassador for Per Ignem and The Phoenix at all times
-Other duties as assigned
-Work early morning, evening, and weekend hours as needed
-Travel for meetings as necessary

-CF-L1 or higher-level CrossFit certification
-Experience facilitating group fitness programs
-Experience with budgets and program management
-Minimum High School Education or GED
-NASM, NSCA, ACSM, or ACE personal training certification preferred
-Experience facilitating individual personal training sessions preferred
-2+ Years' experience in program instruction within field of certification
-Good organizational and time management skills
-Ability to organize events from big picture down to minute details
-Ability to manage and progress on multiple tasks within a given day or week
-Possess excellent organizational and communication skills, professionalism, and the ability to quickly adapt to change
-Ability to use standard office equipment, computer equipment, and proficient with software including word processing, spreadsheet applications and email
-Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact positively and comfortably with people from all walks of life, including homeless persons, recently sober individuals, high net worth donors, elected officials, etc.
-Entrepreneurial spirit, humility, and integrity
-An ability to work in a high-paced, ever-changing environment
-Willingness to be flexible with hours, including working early mornings, late evenings, or weekends as needed
