The Phoenix is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to foster a supportive, physically active community for individuals who are recovering from a substance use disorder and for those who choose to live sober. By participating in our physical, social and education programs, participants build confidence, self-respect, and community. Activities offered include CrossFit, climbing, hiking, boxing, running, yoga, road & mountain biking, and strength training. Through traditional fundraising strategies and revenue ventures, Phoenix is able to provide free programs for anyone with 48 hours of sobriety. The Phoenix currently operates in 33 communities across 22 states.

Per Ignem CrossFit is a public CrossFit affiliate operated through The Phoenix.  All membership dues from Per Ignem directly support The Phoenix in its ability to provide free recovery support services throughout the community.



The Per Ignem Head Coach will be responsible for delivering quality coaching and engaging the Per Ignem community in Denver. Primary duties will include coaching CrossFit classes as scheduled, working with the Gym Manager to increase membership, and developing the Per Ignem presence throughout the community. The Per Ignem Coach will also be responsible for cultivating, building, and nurturing relationships with all members to ensure that programming offered is consistent with The Phoenix mission and core values. A strong connection to The Phoenix mission and demonstrated understanding of core values are critical to this position. A personal connection to recovery is preferred, but not required.



  • Work collaboratively with the Gym Manager to test and evolve new opportunities for the ongoing development and expansion of Per Ignem CrossFit Denver
  • Ensure quality at all classes and events by cultivating relationships, supporting volunteers and maintaining positive relationships with community partners
  • Assist with general daily administrative duties of Per Ignem CrossFit and ensure that facilities and equipment are in functioning order
  • Work in close collaboration with Phoenix's Workforce Development Coordinator to mentor trainees and ensure goals for the Workforce Development Program are met
  • Attend and participate in local staff meetings and other team meetings as requested
  • Be an ambassador for Per Ignem and The Phoenix at all times
  • Other duties as assigned 



  • CF-L1 or higher-level CrossFit certification
  • 1-2 years of experience facilitating CrossFit programs
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact positively and comfortably with people from all walks of life.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent communication skills, professionalism, and the ability to quickly adapt to change
  • Ability to use standard office equipment, computer equipment, and proficient with software including word processing, spreadsheet applications and email
  • Entrepreneurial spirit, humility, and integrity
  • An ability to work in a high-paced, ever-changing environment 
  • Minimum High School Education or GED
  • Willingness to be flexible with hours, including working early mornings, late evenings, or weekends as needed
