The Phoenix is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to foster a supportive, physically active community for individuals who are recovering from a substance use disorder and for those who choose to live sober. By participating in our physical, social and education programs, participants build confidence, self-respect, and community. Activities offered include CrossFit, climbing, hiking, boxing, running, yoga, road & mountain biking, and strength training. Through traditional fundraising strategies and revenue ventures, Phoenix is able to provide free programs for anyone with 48 hours of sobriety. The Phoenix currently operates in 19 states.



The primary responsibility of this position is to instruct programming at the Boise Chapter of The Phoenix (disciplines include CrossFit, yoga, Olympic weightlifting, strength training, and other group fitness classes). A strong connection to The Phoenix Mission and commitment to leading by example are critical to this position; preference will be given to those with personal experience in recovery from alcohol or a substance use disorder.


The Phoenix is a dynamic, creative and fast-paced environment requiring employees to be flexible and able to adapt to an ever-changing environment. Weekend and evening hours and the ability to travel in the community may be required.



  • Coach classes each week (activities may include including CrossFit, group fitness, boxing, Olympic lifting, yoga, hiking, mountain biking, running, etc.)
  • Facilitate partnership and community programming as assigned
  • Assist with facility maintenance and upkeep to ensure the facility and programming space are trauma-informed (accessible, clean, safe, welcoming), reflect The Phoenix Core Values and Community Standards
  • Spread the word about The Phoenix at targeted outreach events
  • Attend and participate in local and national staff meetings, and programming and partnership team meetings
  • Carry out administrative functions, including updating program schedule on our website, conducting outreach events and data entry
  • Support the achievement of quarterly and annual community programming and partnership goals
  • Review and respond promptly, accurately and cordially to all inquiries
  • Be an ambassador for The Phoenix at all times
  • Contribute to social media through Facebook, twitter and Instagram
  • All other duties as assigned



  • NASM, NSCA, ACSM, or ACE personal trainer preferred
  • CF-L1 or higher-level CrossFit certification preferred
  • YT-200, WFR or WFA, CPR/AED, preferred
  • Experience facilitating group fitness programs
  • Familiarity with multiple disciplines, including CrossFit, yoga, boxing, climbing, running, cycling, etc. is a plus
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to relate to people from all walks of life
  • Entrepreneurial spirit, humility, and integrity
  • Minimum High School Education or GED
  • Certification(s) in one or more disciplines
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to use standard office equipment, computer equipment, and software including word processing, spreadsheet applications, and email
  • Bilingual preferred but not required
  • An ability to work in a high-paced, ever-changing environment
  • Willingness to be flexible with hours, including working early mornings, late evenings, or weekends as needed
