The Phoenix is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization which offers a free sober active community to individuals who have suffered from a substance use disorder and to those who choose a sober life. Using a peer support model, we help members heal and rebuild their lives while also striving to eliminate stigma around recovery. Activities offered include CrossFit, climbing, hiking, boxing, running, yoga, road & mountain biking, and strength training. Through traditional fundraising strategies and revenue ventures, Phoenix is able to provide free programs for anyone with 48 hours of sobriety. The Phoenix currently operates in 19 states.



The Phoenix is looking for a Staff Accountant to support the finance and accounting function of all operating areas. Reporting to the CFO, the Staff Accountant will be responsible for accounts receivable, posting revenue, basic account analysis and reconciliations, and some basic journal entry preparation for month-end process. We have achieved significant expansion the in past twelve months and this position offers great long-term growth potential. We are looking for somebody who has excellent analytical skills and enjoys working in a challenging, energetic environment to support the continued expansion. Passion for The Phoenix mission or a personal connection to recovery is a plus, but not required.

The Phoenix is a dynamic, creative and fast-paced environment requiring employees to be flexible and adaptable. This is a full-time position based at the Denver, CO Business Office.



  • Acts as primary Accounts Receivable contact for customers, management and directors, and maintain customer records in the accounting system
  • Process incoming cash/check receipts
  • Process incoming online receipts
  • Prepare cash deposits weekly
  • Record accounts receivable transactions in accounting system for paid partnerships, and grant awards/reimbursements
  • Reconcile accounts receivable accounts
  • Reconcile CRM reports with accounting software to ensure data integrity
  • Reconcile and record inventory transactions for retail/merchandise sales
  • Assist Senior Accountant with bank reconciliations
  • Participate in monthly, quarterly, and year-end close of financial statements
  • Prepare journal entries consistent with GAAP requirements
  • Work with Engagement team, Program and Gym Managers to create accurate revenue budgets/forecasts
  • Review and respond promptly, accurately and cordially to all inquiries
  • Attend and participate in local and national staff meetings, and programming and partnership team meetings
  • Be an ambassador for The Phoenix at all times
  • All other duties as assigned



  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting or Business required
  • 1-2 years of related experience, preferably in the non-profit industry
  • Proficiency in Windows applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)
  • Strong analytical abilities and results orientation
  • Experience with accounting and CRM software a plus (NetSuite, Concur, Salesforce, Zen Planner)
  • Strong organizational skills, project/task management and cross-functional coordination skills
  • High levels of professionalism, organization, and the ability to quickly adapt to change
  • Knowledge and consistent demonstration of excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to work effectively with employees, management, customers, other governmental agencies, community members and the general public.
  • Ability to use standard office equipment, computer equipment, and proficient with software including word processing, spreadsheet applications and email
