You're an experienced fitness instructor or activity leader with a background in supporting volunteers and maintaining positive relationships with community partners. You're passionate about recovery from substance use disorder and believe in the power of community. You've seen the challenges that stigma creates and want to help us fight them. The primary responsibility of the Instructor is strengthen The Phoenix community in Lowell by leading classes, overseeing volunteer instructors, and maintaining partnerships with local organizations. Excellent social skills and the ability to connect with partner organizations, participants, and the general public are essential.This role supports our highly collaborative partnership with the Middlesex County Sheriff's Office, which operates the Community Counseling Center in Lowell, MA, where many Phoenix programs for the area are based.

The ideal candidate will have the ability to instruct in one or more athletic disciplines, such as CrossFit, group fitness, kickboxing, or another gym fitness activity. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead multiple events each week such as CrossFit, group fitness, or boxing
  • Facilitate contracted partnership programming with partner organizations
  • Support our partnership with the Middlesex County Sheriff's Office, where our gym space is located
  • Cultivate positive relationships with participants
  • Identify and facilitate outreach opportunities
  • Support and grow our volunteer instructor program
  • Ensure that all programs are trauma-informed (fun, emotionally and physically safe, inclusive and accessible), and adhere to program and discipline-specific standards
  • Assist with general daily administrative duties of The Phoenix
  • Attend and participate in local and national staff and team meetings
  • Utilize various technology and social media platforms
  • Complete other duties as assigned
  • Work evening and weekend hours as needed

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Passion for recovery from substance use disorder
  • Experience coaching, instructing, or leading one or more of the above-named disciplines
  • Organizational and time management skills, as well as adaptability
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to relate to people from all walks of life
  • Entrepreneurial spirit, humility, and integrity
  • Proficiency with technology

PREFERENCES

  • Lived experience as a peer in recovery and/ or with the justice system
  • Fluency in two or more languages
  • Certification in relevant disciplines (CF-L1, AMGA-CWI, SPI, or Rock Guide; IMBA-L1; YT-200, etc.)
  • First Aid Certification (e.g. WFR, WFA, CPR)
